From my experience it’s best not to make rape jokes in front of people you don’t know well. I know guys who made those jokes in the presence of girls who had experienced sexual assault and the girls felt uncomfortable.
I will say that some guys I heard make such jokes turned out to be quite sexist (ex: believed that a woman was somehow responsible for her rape if she was dressed a certain way). I felt like they weren’t joking.
